Chapter
1: The Wisdom of Awakening - An Overview
The
Four Insights teach us to live the journey of
self-awakening.
They
are: Renounce; Reclaim; Recall; and Relate. The 4 R’s guide
you
in identifying concealed conditioning from your past. They
also
demonstrate how to unhinge the ogre (ego) from your
decision-
making process, thus ending its reappearance in your future. The
Four
Insights
are the cornerstones of Power and Grace. They create
the conditions for awakening, and prepare the space for
grace to
enter.

Chapter 2: The Power of Awakening to the Ogre
The
ogre is motivated
by fear and desire, and is formed through long-term interactions with family, media,
culture, and the world.
By the time most of us get out of bed in the
morning—without even
being aware of it—the majority of our attention
is already consumed
by a litany of conditioned fears, desires, and opinions.
Most of these
are generated by the randomness of our time and place
of birth. This
chapter returns to you the power and grace of your attention.
In
this
chapter, you will learn about twenty-five ways to
observe the force of
the ogre and conditioning. The
easiest place to begin is by taking a look
at behaviors and situations where conditioning or
unconsciousness is
most obvious.

Chapter 3: Spontaneous Right-Action and Awakening
Spontaneous
right-action arises out of the state of trust and
surrender.
Its effect promotes and sustains awakened living as an
undeniable
condition of contentment, potential, and enthusiasm (root: God-within).
With the emergence of spontaneous right-action, you use
thoughts
only when it is absolutely necessary; otherwise, you are
free to be.
This
chapter shows you how to develop your innate skill
for
spontaneous right-action on the path of awakened living.

Chapter 4: Transcending Karma and the Ogre-Dharma
This
outlines
the relationship between action and karma in a light
and non-philosophical way, so as to appeal to both the new and
the advanced seeker. Since free will exists beyond
the reach of karma,
the outcome of an action—or the
karma—is not created by the deed
itself, but by the intention behind
the deed. This chapter shows that
your response today to the momentum created yesterday,
will
create the consequences that you can resolve tomorrow.
Karma
has
the positive effect of sustaining situations so that you are
offered
opportunities to eventually transcend that karma.

Chapter 5: Wisdom in Conversations
The
majority of our daily conversations are the
domain of the ego.
We are conditioned from an early age to communicate
in a way
that creates and sustains the conditions for unawareness
and
needless suffering. Many
of our daily conversations are laden
with the words and topic of ego that can immediately alert
the
discerning ear to the strength of unconsciousness in
yourself and
others.
Most
people are unaware that they sustain the ego in this
way. Learn
how to
identify the ego and conditioning in everyday
conversations using over 350 different statements.
Chapter 6: Awakening Authentic Joy Relationships
In
this chapter the types of relationships relevant to
awakening are
defined (as all are not). This chapter shows you how to evolve the
basis
of relatedness and how to cope with sexual attraction and
romantic love
in the context of awakening. This chapter
also details
twenty character qualities to determine if an individual,
with whom
you wish to develop a new relationship, can inhibit or
enhance your
awakening. Some of these include: How he/she treats
everyone;
Parental relationships; Open-mindedness; Sense of humor;
Clutter;
and Scrutiny under group circumstances.

Chapter 7: The Grace of Resistance to "Change"
Consciousness knows when you are ready to change and it
will
capture your attention, by “accident,” or by
opportunity. If you
are feeling the forcefulness of resistance to change,
you are prepared
for that change. The deciding essence within has only
witnessed all
the changes that have happened to you, yet it only
knows suffering
through observation and has never actually experienced any
of it.
This
chapter clearly shows you that you are an
unintentional
expert at change and also how to apply that skill
to the kind of
transformation necessary to sustain your awakening. At first,
we recognize light in comparison to the darkness we have
known.

Chapter
8: The First Insight - Renounce Conditioned Motives
The
First Insight contains a six-part exercise comprising of 150
statements.
Each one brings
you to a point of objectivity on the presence of concealed
conditioning in everyday circumstances. The First Insight does not look
for causes or to lay blame,
nor does it seek to identify the meaning
of the conditioned situations you may uncover. Instead, the
First Insight allows
you to see if manifestations of the ego—similar
to those pointed to in the
six-part exercise—are present in your
life. When you clearly identify that
this is true, you now possess the
opportunity to transcend them.

Chapter
9: The Second Insight - Reclaim your Awareness
The
Second Insight is
supported by a fifteen-part exercise that shows
you how to position your values to precisely
direct your purest intentions
to fruition. When you become clear about the origin and
arrangement of
your guiding principles—your
values—you
will be able to recognize and
select awakened choices. These options rescue your
future from the ego’s
domination. By doing so, you
reclaim consciousness that would otherwise
be frittered away by having to maintain, adjust,
reverse, or “overcome”
conditioned outcomes created by ego-intentions.

Chapter
10: The Third Insight - Recall Your Origin of Joy
The
Third Insight describes how the simple practices of selective
silence
and stillness meditation can be applied to realize
that your true nature
is not the constant movement of your mind, but one of great
stillness in
which all activity arises. Stillness meditation is often the
first place you
will come face-to-face with the true force of the impersonal
ego. In
stillness meditation, you can practice recognizing and
disregarding the
ego and conditioning so that when you encounter them in your
daily life
you will have the self-confidence and willfulness to let
them be. Stillness
meditation is a metaphor for awakened living.

Chapter 11: The Fourth Insight - Relate as Your Full
Potential
As
you fully integrate the First, Second, and Third Insights in
your life,
the Fourth naturally emerges as a life experience of joy and
ease of being.
The first three Insights create the conditions for this
emergence. This
chapter describes awakening to authentic joy in an
everyday life. New
and exciting opportunities begin to become apparent. Some
are subtle and
others are more apparent. There is great lightness of
being, and a profound
sense of ease that you take into every life situation.
Even though your life
appears as “normal” when viewed from the outside,
you perceive life in a
completely different way now:
one of
peace; stillness; spontaneity; and
adventure.
Chapter 12: Summary of the Evolutionary Pointers
With
renewed awareness, you are given the opportunity to review
the
Evolutionary Pointers from the end of each chapter. The
Evolutionary
Pointers are your signposts on your adventure
of self-awakening.
